Five reasons why we #ChooseToCook every day!
Not a weekday goes by when the kitchen at our Bristol HQ isn’t bursting with tastes and smells from across the globe. From nutritious breakfasts and wholesome lunches, to energy boosting snacks and team dinners, every day our team members cook fresh and delicious meals for each other. And with a workforce spanning 27 nationalities, there’s always something new to be discovered.
At Cookpad we put a lot of emphasis on mealtimes and here’s why.
It’s good for our health — knowing where our food comes from, what goes into the meals we eat and having a balanced and varied diet gives us the energy we need to get through the day. Many of us have worked in places where nipping out for a quick sandwich and eating it at our desk is the norm. But stepping away from our screens to share a meal isn’t just good for our physical health, it’s great for our mental health too.
It’s good for our local community — every week we restock our kitchen with fresh ingredients like meat, fish, fruit and veg, from local suppliers and businesses across Bristol. We take recommendations from them about what’s good and what’s in season, and we encourage team members to suggest suppliers from their local areas of Bristol. We believe strongly in supporting the city that supports our business.
It’s good for the planet — we recently launched our #ChooseToCook campaign and video which was designed to communicate our belief in the power of home cooking. When we #ChooseToCook, we make choices about our food — whether that’s choosing to buy local ingredients, cooking with the seasons, using less plastic, reducing food waste, or simply seeing the value of cooking and sharing a meal with others. All these choices can have a profound and lasting impact on the planet which is one of the reasons why we #ChooseToCook every day.
It’s fun! — coming together in the kitchen gives us a unique opportunity to exercise our creativity, learn new skills, connect with different cultures and build friendships. We learn so much more about each other than we would just going to the pub or doing an activity, and we laugh a lot!
But above all else, it’s core to our mission — Cookpad exists to make everyday cooking fun. Because we believe that cooking is key to a happier and healthier life for people, communities and the planet. By solving the problems related to everyday cooking and inspiring people to enjoy cooking more, we believe we can help build a better world.
Everyone who works for Cookpad plays a vital role in achieving our mission, not to mention building our product and delivering it to the global community. We see our office kitchen as a subset of that global community. It’s a unique space, originally designed as an embodiment of our mission — a constant reminder of why Cookpad exists and we’re proud to lead by example every day.
